Online Safety Training for Children & Young People

Nothing is more important than the safeguarding and well-being of children and young people. We believe education is key in achieving this and when it comes to e-safety education should start very early. We know that children as young as 2-3 years old use digital devices at home. This is why we offer e-safety training sessions to young people starting from Early Years, and going all the way to Further and Higher Education.

Our sessions for children are interactive and up-to-date, here we talk to young people at their level about the technology they are using today. We encourage discussion and interaction and because of this we usually seek to keep the group sizes to a maximum of 60 children.

We have delivered many sessions at colleges and universities to young adults including teacher trainees and social work students. This tends to focus on new and emerging trends, risks and harms they can pose to young people as well as raising awareness around professional reputation.

  • Key Stage 1

Children are making use of technology and the internet from an increasingly younger and younger age. Ofcom determined in 2016 that 32% of 5-7 year olds now own their own tablet device whereas only 36 months earlier, this figure was 0…a revolution. Online safety strategies for this age group have never been required as much as they are today. This session focusses on asking a parent or carer first before using devices and introduces simple concepts of safety.

  • Key Stage 2

Technology is widely available to Primary aged children and an Ofcom study indicates the age for a first smart phone ownership in the UK is 9 yrs of age. This session introduces KS2 children to realistic ways of keeping themselves safe online. Discussing privacy, gaming, bullying, video broadcasting and technology in general we look at the pros and cons of an online world and introduce the students to rules, behaviours and ideas designed to build their resilience in the online world.

  • Key Stage 3

Often confident (but sometimes not competent) users of the technology, advice to KS3 students is vital in keeping themselves safe. This session is aimed at a generation growing with the internet. It looks at digital footprints, reputation, critical reasoning, body image, social networking, sexuality and other issues facing this group. Providing a balanced view of online behaviours we aim to give the young people strategies and information to aid in coping with and supporting their online lives as well as those around them.

  • Key Stage 4

At the later stages of their education students are given the opportunity to listen and discuss the issues affecting them and adults. Considerations are digital footprint, online literacy, fear of missing out, body image, data harvesting and many other more complex issues they will face in their adult lives whilst on line. The session aims to provide them with some ideas to help them maintain a positive and creative online presence when entering the work place and adult life.
