Who is this resource for?

This teaching resource lesson plan is designed to help teachers and facilitators educate young people about pornography, specifically online.

Created by Carmel Glassbrook (lead practitioner for the Professionals Online Safety Helpline) this resource has been developed over a couple of years in response to the need from schools and teachers to have something that can help with the growing issue of pornography consumption in teenagers.

The lesson is broken down into three main sections, which can be taught together or separately; The history of porn, The legalities and Myth busters.

How can this resource help?

The aim is to start a conversation on an often awkward subject, challenge some ideas/ideals that porn portrays and encourage young people to think more critically about the content they consume.

The resource has been tested with over 200 students and read by academics in the field.

This is a much needed, long-awaited, high-quality and easy to use resource for teachers and professions working with young people. As a topic, talking to young people about pornography has been avoided for far too long in spite of young people themselves wanting to discuss it sensibly and critically. It's time we stopped shying away from this - I highly recommend this resource for anyone working with young people aged 13 and over.
