Who We Are
We’re SWGfL (that’s short for South West Grid for Learning). We're a charity in the UK that helps people use technology safely.
What Is a Privacy Policy
This Privacy Policy explains how we use your information in a way that's easy for you to understand.
How We Use Your Information
What We Collect
We collect information that you give us, like your name, email address, or phone number. We use this to know who you are and to help you, such as sending emails, letting you join events, or letting you use our websites.
When you use our website, we also collect information about what type of device you use (such as computer, phone or tablet), your IP address (this is your device's online home address) and what type of browser you use (such as Safari, Google, Bing and many more).
How We Use It
- We keep websites running smoothly and securely.
- We use information to send you event invites or emails if you've asked.
- At events, we might share your name with the venue so things run well.
- To answer any questions you have asked us.
- To respond to any reports you make about harmful content online
Privacy in Helplines
If you contact our helplines (like for online safety support), we may record details (e.g., time, info shared) to help you and to keep you safe.
We protect your privacy and will only tell others if someone is in danger or a law says we have to.
Cookies & Tracking
Our website uses "cookies" (tiny files on your device, like computer or phone) to make your visit better. You can delete or turn them off if you want.
Sharing Your Info
We don't usually share your personal information with other people or companies unless one of these is true:
- You agreed (like signing up for an event or newsletter)
- A court or police ask
- It's needed to keep someone safe
- We're selling part of our charity
- Or we told you already
Outside the UK
If we share your info outside the UK, we make sure it's still protected by the right legal rules.
How Long We Keep It
We keep your info only as long as needed (usually while we're working with you), and no more than 7 years after that. Then we delete or hide it.
Your Rights
You have important rights over your info:
- Ask what we know about you
- Ask us to fix mistakes
- Ask us to delete it (if we don't need it)
- Ask us to stop using it
- Ask us to give you the info we have
- Say "No" to direct marketing
You can ask us by emailing privacy@swgfl.org.uk. And if you're not happy, you can contact the UK Information Commissioner's Office.
Other Stuff
If you are under 13, we ask for your parent's, carer's or guardian's permission before we collect any of your personal information.
We sometimes use your anonymised info (so nobody knows it's you) to do research or make our services better.
We may save or listen to helpline calls to help train staff or make sure our help is good.
Research We Might Do
Sometimes, we do research for other organisations (like schools, charities, or government bodies) to help them understand online safety better.
If you're ever part of this kind of research:
- We'll always tell you what it's for
- We'll explain how your information will be used
- We'll let you know if the information will include your name or if it will be made anonymous (so no one knows it's you)
- You'll always be able to ask questions or say no.
