The 360 safe online safety self-review tool has been updated to take account of recent updates to national guidance in England.
The DfE Keeping Children Safe in Education guidance highlights the importance of online safety as a critical aspect of safeguarding and child protection in schools, and provides guidance on how to incorporate online safety into broader policies and practices.
The DfE Meeting Digital and Technology Standards in Schools guidance has been updated to combine the cyber security standards into seven new standards.
The UK Safer Internet Centre Appropriate Filtering and Monitoring Guidance was updated in May 2024 to strengthen guidance around robust risk assessments and enhanced monitoring and alerts, while being consolidated to take account of DfE statutory guidance in 2023.
In order to ensure that the 360 degree safe tool continues to meet schools’ safeguarding needs and national guidance the content of some aspects has been updated. We have also added some references to the use of AI in schools where it may impact on online safeguarding.
Schools are recommended to revisit their 360 safe reviews to ensure that they continue to meet the standards recommended in the tool.

Please Help Us to Improve the 360 safe Online Safety Self-Review Tool
Each year the 360 safe tool is updated in response to changes in national guidance and digital behaviours. Every few years we have a more detailed review to check if the format of the tool continues to meet school needs as technology and its related behaviours change.
We intend to carry out this more significant review in 2025 and would be grateful if you could help us by providing some comments about how you view the effectiveness of the tool in its current format and how you feel the tool might be improved to meet schools’ needs over the next few years.
We have set up an online survey and would be grateful if you could spare a few minutes to provide your opinions about the tool in its current format and how it might be further improved.
