As a partner in the UK Safer Internet Centre, SWGfL welcomes the government response to the online harms white paper published today (Wednesday 12th February).
Through our Reporting Harmful Content portal we provide unique online reporting routes and work closely with industry to ensure this content can be removed quickly and effectively. Additionally our Professionals Online Safety Helpline & Revenge Porn Helpline services provide invaluable and practical advice and support to members of the children’s workforce and victims of intimate image abuse respectively.
It is through this work and our partnerships with industry that we are uniquely placed to support the Government intent to ensure that this content has no place on the internet.
The Government response also signals the intention to introduce a ‘duty of care’ on companies. This too is something that SWGfL supports and sees as introducing the same child safeguarding responsibilities and expectations, that all our statutory organisations who work with children (eg schools) have had for over 15 years.
SWGfL is committed to ensuring the UK is the safest place to be online.
