We are proud to announce that SWGfL has been officially granted special consultative status with the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) marking international recognition of our contribution to digital safeguarding and online safety.
This status positions SWGfL among a select group of global civil society organisations recognised for their expertise, impact, and alignment with UN priorities. Our work to tackle non-consensual intimate image (NCII) abuse, promote online education, and lead on online safety solutions has allowed us to be a more prominent voice in the work of the UN.
What This Means for SWGfL
As an organisation in special consultative status with ECOSOC, SWGfL now has the formal right to:
Submit written and oral statements to ECOSOC and other relevant UN bodies;
Be consulted on policy and programmatic areas that align with our work, particularly those concerning digital rights, safety, education, and online harm prevention;
Elevate our voice as a global authority on digital safeguarding, trust and safety, and technology-facilitated abuse prevention.
This consultative status will enhance our ability to influence global policy at the highest levels.
David Wright CBE CEO of SWGfL said: ‘’As we take on this new status, we remain committed to building safer online spaces for everyone and to help shape international responses towards digital harm for a more positive future. Having a more recognised voice at the United Nation will greatly help us in our mission to ensure everyone can benefit from technology free from harm and we thank the UN for the recognition.’’
