We are marking the third-year anniversary of StopNCII.org (a global online tool to combat intimate image abuse) by revealing that StopNCII.org is now being used to protect over 1,000,000 images from being shared online without consent. The 1,000,000 milestone marks the number of ‘hashes’ that have been created on StopNCII.org to protect individuals against intimate image abuse. This increase in hashes marks a 130% increase from the previous year and illustrates the rising global empowerment to protect against NCII.
As part of our celebrations, we are also delighted to announce that Bitly and Resolver have joined the StopNCII.org initiative to help us combat NCII across even more platforms worldwide. As we mark this significant milestone and welcome our new partners, we continue to recognise the global efforts being made by the existing 12 partners to put an end to non-consensual intimate image sharing.

Over the past three years, our ongoing collaboration with industry partners has provided essential protection for hundreds of thousands of individuals. We are proud to see the significant increase in global awareness around the issue of non-consensual intimate image sharing, with the initiative being supported by the White House. Initiatives like StopNCII.org have shown that through collective efforts, we can make a difference.
How Does StopNCII.org Work?
StopNCII.org is the world’s-first, on-device hashing technology tool. People concerned about intimate image abuse can create unique identifiers of their images, (also known as ‘hashes’ or digital fingerprints) from their own device.
Only hashes are then shared with StopNCII.org, not the original image (or video): the intimate content never leaves the user’s device. When a StopNCII.org case is opened, hashes are presented as a string of letters and numbers, rather than the image itself, to protect the user’s privacy.
Hashes are then shared with our participating partners, and if an image becomes available through one of these sites, matches the corresponding hash, and meets partner policy requirements, the image will be sent for moderation. If the image violates that partner’s policy, it will be addressed, for example by being removed and blocked from being shared further across partner platforms.

‘’We are pleased to witness growing global recognition of StopNCII as a vital tool for stopping the spread of Non-Consensual Intimate Media (NCIM). Reddit maintains a zero-tolerance policy against NCIM, and protecting users from this policy-violating media is a top priority. Since becoming an industry partner of StopNCII in early 2023, we’ve developed an on-premises solution to detect potential NCIM via a Hashing & Matching stack (blog) and completed integration with the StopNCII hashset. We’ve constructed an internal database of hashes brought over through regular syncs with StopNCII, allowing Reddit to scan live traffic for matches against the reported NCIM. Backed by our internal data analysis, StopNCII hash matches have enabled us to broaden our detection capabilities and reduce user exposure to NCIM content on Reddit, making our platform safer for all users.’’ - Reddit
