Safer Internet Day is the UK Safer Internet Centre’s biggest event of the year and brings together thousands of organisations to celebrate staying safe online whilst discussing a broad theme for each year. This year alone, Safer Internet Day reached 54% of children aged 8-17 in the UK with 3,424 organisations signing up to support. While it doesn’t seem that long ago since the world was celebrating Safer Internet Day 2022, the UK Safer Internet Centre has now released the theme for 2023.
Safer Internet Day 2023 Theme
Today (Thursday 29th September) the UK Safer Internet Centre announced that the new SID theme will be ‘Want to talk about it? Making space for conversations about life online’. The UK Safer Internet Centre is looking for 2023 to ‘put children and young people’s voices at the heart of the day’. This SID which is taking place on Tuesday 7th February 2023 is looking to encourage children and young people to shape the online safety support that they receive whilst looking to answer the following questions:
- What issues really matter to children and young people?
- What changes do children and young people want to see?
- How can we all work together to advocate for them moving forward?
The day will be a chance to hear from children and young people about how we can make ‘positive change together’ whilst calling on parents, carers, professionals, government and other organisations to take the time to listen.
