New Survey: Public Attitudes Towards Reporting Intimate Image Abuse

At the Revenge Porn Helpline, we support anyone over the age of 18 who is living in the UK and has been affected by intimate image abuse. We understand the huge and sometimes devastating impact non-consensual image sharing can have on someone and how isolating this can feel.

For many, the thought of turning to the police is daunting, and our data makes this clear. While thousands seek our support, only around 4% go on to report what has happened to them through law enforcement. This figure speaks volumes and shows that so many still feel the system is not supportive enough to protect them.

We understand that there are many reasons why people may choose not to report to the police, and we always encourage those affected by intimate image abuse to do what feels most comfortable to them. There is never any obligation to make a report to the police, you can seek support from the Revenge Porn Helpline regardless of your choice, and all contacts made to the Helpline are treated with confidentially and care.

We Want to Hear From You

However, for those who do wish to make a legal report, we are striving to make the reporting process safer, more respectful, and more supportive from the very first step.

To understand more, we are launching a survey in partnership with the police to hear directly from those who have experienced intimate image abuseand chosen to report it. We want to understand, in victim’s own words, what worked, what caused difficulties, and where change is most urgently needed.

Hearing directly from people with these experiences is vital in shaping an improved response that reflects the needs of people experiencing intimate image abuse.

To be eligible to take part in the survey you must have experienced intimate image abuse, be over the age of 18 when the crime took place and the crime must have happened in the UK.
