New Resource: Should You Upload Photos of Children into AI?

New Resource: Should You Upload Photos of Children into AI?

Using artificial intelligence has quickly become a normalised part of everyone’s life. Whether we’re using it to edit photos, create new images or enhance old ones, AI-powered tools are now more accessible than ever. But when we choose to upload photographs that include children and young people, it's worth taking a moment to think about what actually happens behind the scenes.

That's why we’ve launched a new resource "Should I Upload Photos of Children Into AI?", to help parents, carers and professionals better understand the risks and considerations involved.

What Are You Agreeing To?

Many people are using AI tools to improve family photos, remove backgrounds or even adjust school pictures i.e. remove watermarks. While these tools can be useful, uploading an image often means agreeing to a platform's terms and conditions and that can involve agreeing to a lot more than many people realise. Depending on the service, images may be stored, used to improve AI systems or shared with other providers.

The resource highlights some of the questions families should ask before uploading a child's photo. Could the image reveal personal information? Who can access it? Can it be deleted later and how might it be used in the future? It also explores wider concerns around children's privacy and the growing risk of images being altered or reused without permission as AI technologies become more advanced.

Our new resource provides straightforward guidance to help families weigh up the benefits and risks before sharing children's photos with AI tools.
