ARSome of our SWGfL colleagues attended Anfield Stadium on Tuesday 31st January, as part of the UK Safer Internet Centre to join local primary schools at Liverpool FC.
In preparation for Safer Internet Day (7th February), we ran some fun activities and got to have a tour of the football stadium, running a morning and afternoon session whilst filming what we got up to.
As part of the celebration on Safer Internet Day, we’re delighted to announce that the UK Safer Internet Centre will be playing the film of what happened on the day. This will be premiered at 10:00am on Safer Internet Day on the UK Safer Internet Centre YouTube channel – it was a fantastic day so make you tune in and join us!
What Happened at Liverpool FC?
The students who attended were able to meet the team’s mascot Mighty Red who greeted everyone when they arrived and put on a entertaining show in the main hall. Our own Andrew Williams then led a Safer Internet Day assembly which was all about this year’s theme of ‘Want to talk about it? Making space for conversations online.’ Andrew encouraged discussion around some familiar topics, including how we keep our passwords safe and what we can do if someone is being mean to us online.
The students were also very lucky to meet football legend John Barnes who was our guest player for the day,joining in on some of the discussions around staying safe online.
After the assembly, some of the students were able to go and have a tour of the stadium while the rest joined us for some more activities. These fun discussions encouraged the students to think about how persuasive design works as well as how technology can make us feel,using some of the activities from ProjectEVOLVE. The teams were then able to swap round so everyone got a tour of Anfield.
All of the students went home with some Liverpool FC goodies, an understanding of online safety, and ideas of how they can continue to celebrate Safer Internet Day on Tuesday!
