Assisted Monitoring

An online software solution to help schools to monitor the students' behaviors when they are surfing the Internet.

SWGfL Assisted Monitoring is a combined solution, bringing together the UAM(User Activity monitoring) technology and also a specially designed service to check the data and alerts that it generates and, where necessary, takes action to contact the school and provide support in resolving the relevant issue.

The Assisted Monitoring Service will be operated by SWGFL, and be focused on rapid identification of alerting to serious violations. communication with the school and coordinated action and advice to help to resolve the issue. Rather than removing risk or responsibility from the school, it will help the school to have a good level of monitoring with the confidence that anything picked up by the UAM technology of a severe nature will not go unnoticed.

Schools in England (and Wales) are required “to ensure children are safe from terrorist and extremist material when accessing the internet in school, including by establishing appropriate levels of filtering” .  Furthermore the Department for Education published proposed changes to ‘Keeping Children Safe in Education’  for consultation in December 2015.  Amongst the proposed changes, schools will be obligated to “ensure appropriate filters and appropriate monitoring systems are in place. Children should not be able to access harmful or inappropriate material from the school or colleges IT system”.
